The Tongariro River is one of the most famous trout rivers in the world. Wild Rainbow and Brown trout have thrived here in the Lake Taupo system better than anywhere in New Zealand.
All types of fly fishing are catered for, the most successful methods are upstream nymphing, wet-fly fishing and dry-fly during the late Spring and Summer. The fishing can be both tecnically difficult and physically challenging. Rainbow trout can be caught all year round. The average weight of the trout from the Tongariro is 4lbs. Fish under 3lbs are common in the Summer months and trophy fish in excess of 10lbs can be caught any time of the year. Brown trout can also be caught all year round. Again, fish in excess of 10lbs can be caught. Great fun on dry-fly during the warm summer evenings.
We invite you to join the ranks of the many anglers who have enjoyed their trout fishing experience of a lifetime at Chez Malc.
