Malcolm Sime

Director of New Zealand Art Schools and Bob Ross wet-on-wet oil painting instructor
Home

Malcolm first saw the Bob Ross TV oil painting programme in USA in 1996 and was amazed when Bob completed a landscape in 30 minutes. He was using the wet-on-wet technique, as used by Monet and all the Old Masters. Bob made oil painting ‘look so easy’.

Malcolm went out, purchased one of his books, paint, brushes etc. and discovered that he could not really learn from the book. As a result, he brought three trained American Instructors to New Zealand to teach him the basics. He was amazed at his first efforts, all of which can be viewed in the studio/classroom.

What Malcolm saw and learnt was, ‘too good to keep to himself’, so he's been to USA for training and is now New Zealand's first Certified Bob Ross Instructor in this amazing ‘wet-on-wet’ technique.

Malcolm says, “If you can hold a pen and write, you can hold a brush and paint”. Malcolm is so confident that he can teach anyone to paint that he offers a 100% money-back guarantee. This means that students can walk out of the class anytime right up until the painting is finished, leave the painting behind, and their money is cheerfully refunded.

He also warns that students may become addicted. Three of his students twice and one three times before, before each committed themselves to travelling to the Bob Ross art school in the USA and returning—trained and certified—to teach this amazing wet-on-wet oil painting technique. Three are certified floral teachers and the fourth is certified in landscapes and seascapes. Two of these, Barbara Rathbone and Shona Harris now teach regularly in NZ Art Schools studio/ classroom.
