I was a late starter in the painting stakes, and I am totally self taught in the abstract field, so my work is all my own, hopefully unaffected by anyone else’s ideas, rules or restrictions. In the landscape area I have had wonderful help from some very successful artists.
I do, however, come from a family of wonderful artists, they are very hard to live up too! All my mistakes are my very own, and I have even managed to learn from some of them.
My paintings tend to zoom across the canvas in bright streaks of colour, reflecting my busy life. My work is produced both in busy Wellington and in the peace and quiet of my garden studio in Hawkes Bay, where the floral influence is clearly reflected .I don’t stress about using paint and materials in a traditional or accepted way, and if a straight line is called for I never feel guilty about using a ruler.
I like to experiment with many different materials to add a textured element to the abstract work. This often results in unexpected effects when the light changes, creating an interesting and ever changing look.
I paint for my own satisfaction first, and I am delighted if someone else likes what I have created.
Enjoy my paintings, laugh if they make you happy, walk away if they don’t.
