On TV

Malcolm Sime, our New Zealand Art Schools Director, occasionally appears on nationwide television in the 'Good Morning' show on TV One, which is screened live between 9.00 a.m. and mid-day Monday to Friday.

Malcolm appears two or three times during the programme and will start with a blank canvas and by the end of the programme, the painting is finished. Alternatively, he may be teaching one of the presenters or some of their guests how to paint.

Malcolm is a painting enthusiast and has discovered that as long as a person can hold a pen and write, they are able hold a brush and paint. He has proven this with over 700 students attending workshops to date.

One of the features of these half day or full day workshops is that NZ Art Schools appears to be the only place where you pay after the lesson and even then, you only pay if you are happy with your painting and wish to take it home.

In introducing each workshop, those attending are told, "There is good news and bad news. The good news is that you can get up and walk out at any time, right up until the painting is finished, leave everything behind and we would refund your money, but you will notice that we have not taken any money off you at this stage. Thus you get up and walk out and nothing is owing. Now the bad news is that you may become addicted! We have had numerous people just attend one painting workshop and as a result of this, their lives have had a significant change."

If after watching the 'Good Morning' show, you would like to attend a workshop in our Lower Hutt based studio/classroom, you can check the schedule and book over the website, or alternatively phone Sheilah on (04) 568 4126 and register.

Alternatively if you can gather eight or more people together, Malcolm will travel and run a workshop in your area or can arrange for other certified teachers to lead these .

All that is needed is access to a hall that has trestle tables . This can either be in a school, church, community hall or even a hotel or conference centre. If need be the workshop can be a fund raiser with part of the proceeds going to a local school, church, charity or some other worthwhile cause, in return for use of their hall.

There is a publicity article which can often be printed in the local community newspaper and this can be supported with advertising which NZ Art Schools would pay for.

However a local contact person in is required any area so that those interested in attending can phone and register. The person who takes on this responsibility receives a discount off the class fee.

Malcolm supplies absolutely everything so people just wear old clothes and come with their lunch. They then go home with an oil painting they have finished 100% by themselves.

Start time is normally 9.00 a.m. with finish by 3.00 p.m. so people with children at school can come during the day. The price for a full day class is $95 in the North Island and $105 in the South Island which allows for the additional cost of travel.

Pizza & Painting evenings are also available. People come at 6.00 p.m., and the pizzas are delivered then. By 9.00 p.m. participants have finished their oil painting and are on their way home. The prices for these are $65 North Island and $70 South Island.

Malcolm uses Bob Ross oil paints and brushes and is happy to teach people how to paint. All products used are odorless, so there are no annoying fumes in any workshop.

A catalogue and price list of the full range of paint, brushes, books, videos, DVDs, equipment, etc. is available. To receive this, please send a postal address and we shall mail a copy to you.

Please don't hesitate to contact New Zealand Art Schools if we can be of any further assistance. We would certainly be happy to travel and run some classes in your area if there is sufficient interest and we can get eight or more people to attend.
